13 scratchboard experiments
Made between 2020 and 2022
The technique, inspired by scratchboard, rhodoid plastic sheets covered on one side with black paint, and on the other with white paint. The black part is scratched to reveal the white.
Some differences and variation for this series :
I'm still experimenting new way to scratch the black layer, here I used tape to take off pieces of paint. I got different effects using cleaning products and salt. Salt absorbs moisture and prevents paint from adhering. It then easily detaches randomly, creating interesting effects similar to graffiti-covered walls. I also used arabic gum to protect certain areas of the drawings, mainly to keep the structure and not lose the narrative idea.
I work here on the idea of memory and ruin, the walls bear witness to the passage of humans and time. Generation after generation, the marks, symbols, epigraphic writings blend visually with the impacts and wear of the rock.
